Forcing Valve and GoG to make the same type of deals would be such an irksome tactic from MS if that turned out to be the case, though in the end it would get me rooting more for the other two since MS would have been the one to spark off such a tactic if they did so. I'm honestly not with Windows 10 or the MS store in general, MS has always had this thing where they simply outright avoid supporting for mods with their games let alone the community and Valve heavily support that aspect of PC gaming and the community in general. I'm far more likely to hop onto Steam OS and see Vulkan support grow than what MS has in store because as far as I can see all they have in store is what they have, not what they have for everyone the way Vulkan and other clients/vendors will have. |
I can see them doing a kick-start with a few titles money hatted into exclusivity for the sake of "developing" their walled garden and taking a loss. Unlike the Xbox division's limited backing, bigger Microsoft is making enourmous investments into getting people into their store and Windows 10 environment for possible future growth potential. Thats why I beleive its a possibility they won't care about Steam or the sales until after the endevour fails, if it fails they simply cut their losses and exit. Then we have dead games for years again like GFWL. Dark Souls on steam has been wonderfull.
As for Vulkan, we can only hope that the expected uptake of it is as massive as it will need. DirectX has just been one big problem for a long time IMO. Being replaced with something open would be amazing. It's not going to be easy for vulkan to take over. Directx for gamers is embeded throughout sadly, hope it has some form of old directx emulation. Would make me switch to Steam OS as well if I didnt have to sacrifice so many games.
