I've been honestly staring at the gif for a while and I'm having hard time watching an upgrade. The gamma is fucked in both images, which leaves a result that cannot be compared with any positive outcome for any one.
There's details in the new build, like injuries on Nathan's face. I think the sweat in the shirt is more realistic, and the colour of the leather as well. But the old build has better details on Nathan's neck, doesn't have missing details on the shirt (like the second button which its less shiny and gets choped in a half), and the rocks on the right personally look better than in the new build. Can't say I like looking at Nathan's hand if it's not in motion. 
Also, there's a weird spike of hair in the 2016 pic. Then again it's probably because of the gamma, which spoiled both images.
