Because of XB360, Sony was forced to more competitively price their console and learned that they can't charge whatever they want for home consoles. XB360 also introduced cross-game chat, which Sony now implements. Xbox's online infrastructure also directly inspired the PSN so that the PlayStation brand could compete in the online field. Without Xbox, we'd either be stuck paying out the nose for next-gen consoles, playing on PC, or playing Nintendo.

Sony would have priced their console cheaper period as the PS4 cost for development was much cheaper than that of the PS3. THe PS3 also outsold the 360 so it did not effect the PS3 sale sin the long run. No one really cares for cross-game chat and that feature was something that was coming regardless. Sony had been improving PSN since last generation and are now better than MS because fans asked for certain features. None of that had anything to do with MS at all. When were we ever stuck paying out the nose for next gen consoles lol? Nothing you said is relevant to why the PS4 is beasting right now.
