As for Lionhead, I'm not surprised they're closing, only that it's happening before the new game comes out. Even if it's subpar, it seems like they would still release it. All I can figure is that the game needs serious work which would result in a lot of budget overrun and Microsoft is unwilling to finance that.

With the studio itself, Fable III was in 2010. Since then, they're probably just been eating resources while producing nothing of significance. Fable Legends was probably their last chance.

Some pretty bad leadership exists at lionhead, imo.

Microsoft still probably wants to carry on Fable and it's possible we'll see a brand new studio soon built for pushing rpg experiences (including Fable).
