Ooh... we have new info about why Gears of War performs so bad (hint: it's MSoft's fault. What a surprise) and why Tim Sweeney wasn't at his best when he bashed the UWP.
Nvidia’s HBAO+ GameWorks Feature Is Behind The Visual Corruption Issue In Gears Of War Ultimate Edition

"As it turns Nvidia’s HBAO+ ambient occlusion feature was the culprit behind the horrible artifacting / visual corruption issue that plagued some of AMD’s Radeon graphics cards. What’s more eyebrow-raising is the fact that there isn’t even any mention of HBAO+ inside Gears of War Ultimate Edition’s graphics settings menu. There’s only an option to turn “Ambient Occlusion” on or off, with no mention of what type of ambient occlusion it is."
but it's not only that
"The entry means that hardware accelerated PhysX is enabled by default in the game and because any changes to the file are overwritten automatically upon game start-up means it can’t be disabled."
As much as I dislike GameWorks, it's all Microsoft's fault for using it without properly labeling it and adding other options for those who have AMD or want to use less taxing solutions.
Sweeney Admits There’s No Proof of Evil Plan by Microsoft, Proves He’s Not Up To Date On UWP Specifics

"As you’re surely aware by now, this opinion piece sparked a huge controversy all over the Web and forced Sweeney to discuss it again. Firstly, in the Newsworthy Polygon podcast he admitted that he has no proof of any evil plan being enacted by Microsoft, only the fear of one.
Microsoft is a black box. I know a lot of people there who are really awesome, smart people who want to do the right thing, but then there are other people there who appear not to be because some of the bad decisions they’re making on Windows 10. There is not proof of an evil plan to do this, but just the fear.
Then, he was bombarded on Twitter and to his credit, he replied to a lot of tweets; however, some of his replies didn’t exactly help his argument. For example, it seems like he admitted his need to document himself on the difference in openness between Win32 and UWP apps."
We all share those fears (well, all but fatslob ) but Sweeney doesn't make anyone any favours acting like that without basis.
Please excuse my bad English.
