The whole argument that people would be content with a decent PC instead of an XBox: What universe do you live in? Very, VERY few people are interested in buying a gaming PC. They want convenient solutions, where the just plug and play. If people in general were so interested in gaming PCs, they would sell A LOT better than they do. PC cater to one type of gamers, consoles to another and touch devices to a third and there are some cross-sections of gamers as well.

The whole notion that X1 games to PC suddenly would turn many gamers towards PS4 or PCs, sounds more like wishful thinking than anything else :).

There are more gaming PC's than Xbox One, Wii U and Playstation 4 consoles sold combined currently.
The PC was a larger platform than the Wii, Xbox 360 or Playstation 3 platforms, even bigger than the PS2.

The PC as a gaming platform is continuing to grow, rather rapidly in-fact.
Does that mean all gamers want a PC? Well. No. Not exactly, but the PC isn't a market that can be ignored anymore, it's much too large and extremely profitable.
Allot of gamers are also happy to have both platforms, the PC has a myriad of exclusives that draws in 10's of millions of people that consoles just don't have and the same goes the other way too. Xbox has Halo, Playstation has Uncharted, PC has League of Legends.

All the platforms have their Pro's and Con's, with consoles having greater interopeatability with PC's, I don't see how it's a loss for anyone, you would be surprised how many times I have bought the same game on Xbox and PC because I simply can. :P If microsoft can allow me to buy one game and play it on my Xbox, Desktop PC, Laptop and Tablet and maybe Phone (Using some kind of remote play and Blue-tooth controller of course like nVidia's Shield.), who am I to argue? Microsoft just locked into their ecosystem by leveraging all their platforms at once, that's a win for Gamers.
