About the new strategy, the writing was on the wall.  At some point Phil made it clear that he wasing trying to pass the PS4.  His goal was to make the gaming business as profitable as possible so that Xbox could go on.  He said something to the effect of:  I can make any promises if I can't prove that the gaming division can be profitable.  I don't know how Live membership plays into this on PC (if at all) but of all publishers, Microsoft has been the most unsupportable in years past of gaming on PC.  The controlled enviorment factor plays a big part, but isn't it weird that everyone seems shocked about Microsoft supporting its own operating system (and yes that a singular operating system).  It will be interesting to see how folks react tomorrow when the full list of games comes out. 

In the years they didn't support windows 7-8 we had other clients and vendors with a minute few of their own titles (even Valve's exclusives are playable on Mac, Linux, Windows 7-10 and even Steam OS, one store supporting multiple OS users and even the library on that client dwarfs their own work by a ton) and it seemed like a good time because it meant we had plenty of stores and choices to go for. With MS coming back it's simply being forced into a closed environment with their OS, no ability to mod, only buying from one store for a few titles owned by them (even owned by them I can funnily enough buy quote a lot of MS related games not on their store but multiple vendors and Steam, so it's hardly like they were always exclusive just to MS, back when MS was technically more open but not dominant) and with DX 12 you'll eventually have to buy specific hw to "cope" with the "raw power" that DX is touted to offer (yet these recent windows 10 only games actually require way more hw than most AAA games and these are at the end of the day console ports and not built only specifically for PC in mind at all which also debunks DX 12's supposed power usage into play) along with it only working with W10 console port titles. Vulkan is supporting other OS's, other games not owned by MS and even supports Windows 7-10.

I get what MS is going for but about a year and a half ago we heard that they wanted to "re-commit" to PC gaming, not commit to it in their own way as to go "hey we left you for someone we thought was better but we kinda own you so we'll do what we like by force, so yeah accept it". I honestly don't think they've learned much from the last time they tried their hand at PC gaming, this time it;s just them wanting to mold their console onto PC and call it Xbox, not PC gaming because what they have planned and mapped out isn't really what PC gaming is about.

At the end of the day they can talk about what they are supporting but all I see is them wanting their cake and eating it. I don't see them wanting to co-exist with an open platform and more of wanting it to be all run by them, I mean if someone else goes out of their way to make a game or API run acorss mutliple OS's, why are we to praise them less than one who desires a walled garden and complete control with all competition forced outside their realm?. The way I see VUlkan, it looks to be a lot better from an open pov since it;s going to support multiple OS's, DX only supports one, Wind 10 store is Windows 10 only, Steam is on multiple OS's. It's clear MS doesn't want to be an exact copy of Steam but they also don't look like they will be better than Steam in every single way and that's the most disappointing part. I wanted them to come back and be fully "sorry we fucked you guys up for years, we want to make things good between us again, we want to fully co-operate with you guys", instead there is no such co-operation, there is only "use our OS and store of get out". YOu coudlt toally use the Steam argument but at the end of the day Steam still supports more than MS ever will.
