I feel VR will be more widepread than just mere porn, it has more fields of use than just games and porn tbh. |
Yes we had a good amount of VR hype before, but the tech wasn't ready.
Compare it to LaserDisc and analog HDTV. We've had HDTV since the 90's (1035i), MUSE Hi-vision Laserdisc (650i) launched in 1994. Too early, too expensive, too bulky. Same as VR in the 90's. Now HDTV is everywhere.
I think the tech is currently good enough for mainstream adoption. Sure it's 'only' dvd quality for now, yet that was good enough for a decade (still is for many) HDVR will come later.
And yep there can be many uses. Camera phones are getting better all the time. Imagine getting a call from your friends on holiday that want to show off the surroundings, put on your headset and look around where they are. Google earth already has 360 degree views from all over the world. Documentaries made for VR are sure to catch on. The next big BBC earth documentary for VR, yes please.
