Blood Dragon was awesome. Shorter than mainline games but with more emphasis on gameplay and less on cinematics. That, to me, is the perfect spin-off, where people who want more of a particular kind of gameplay get that but without a story that infringes on the theme of the main titles. I'd be perfectly fine with a schedule that gave us one spinoff for every mainline release.
