"On its earnings call, Sony management indicated the company is now more focused on achieving profitability in the PlayStation segment... Importantly, management comments also suggest that a price cut is less likely on the PS3 this year, at least in the near term."
Interesting, both MS and Sony are concetrating on profitability.. anyone else picture a green turtle and a black turtle racing to the finish line, with a white hare running past them?? |
Well, I think that there will still be another price cut, but I definitely don't think that it will be another $100 for the next round b/c too many things are being added such as the rumble controllers and the digital tuner for PlayTV, it seems that Sony is concentrating more on increasing the versatility of the PS3 rather than simply focusing on games for better or worse, and this will make it take longer to cut the price, obviously. Also, don't necessarily beleive what the corporate PR is saying about pricing......b/c no company would want to tip consumers off that the prices are about to come down, b/c this would encourage the customer to buy later......when prices would be lower and revenue less for Sony, which is why Sony has basically always denied that it is about to cut until a few weeks b4 it actually does cut them, when in fact, these plans for the timing of the cuts were probably made at least 2-3 months before they actually happened.
Anyway, I think that a $50 cut is likely by Christmas.
