Can you prove that his policies were an issue ? As for why congress increased the deficit it's because they felt like it ... (I'm serious here!)

Yes but Reagan helped speed up the downfall of the Soviet Union since they were pressured enough to increase their defense spending ...

Its because of him trying to cut taxes for the rich... lets just say it didn't work. So yes, there was a deficit because of his economic policy. And he spead up the fall of the soviet union by what, a few months? The Warsaw pact was already becoming disarrayed by the time he came to office, and the union destroyed themselves. Maybe his speech to unite germany again did help a bit in doing that, but many people already wanted that to happen.

 

As for increasing defense spending, so what? They had no money anyway. By the late 70s, it was apparent. Their nation was facing shortages for resources, and it was in deep recession.
