I don't think any or at least the majority of fans of Sega or Nintendo hated the other company as it was more playful banter back then with the net not being a platform to bait people. Seeing Sega go down was not a nice event as they're the only company that were like Nintendo in their software approach but at the same time the were signs things weren't in order as SOJ and SOA were having some kind of civil war since the mid 90s while SOE were non existent.
