Yes the Xbox console is going away but mostly because of the point that Microsoft's money is better spent making software... its kinda their claim to fame (Windows).
Also look at their history in the hardware arena...Xbox OG, Zune, Nokia, Kinect,... surface pro is excellent and it took forever to get there. And you c as n be sure Holo Lens will probably fail too.
Ho if i were them i would keep surface, come out with a high end variant for gaming (with Xbox branding) and play to the strengths of their moneymakers. The Surface pros need to be priced high enough to make sure they can make up for no live subs.
