Oh, ok I've looked at a youtube video and no it's not the same. you don't get factory blueprint and just build it. You can design the building block by block however you like structure wise, but if you put cooking fire and an oven inside it, it becomes a kitchen that the villagers will use to cook (you can use it too ).Thats for utility buildings(Blacksmith, crafting, cooking and storage are what I've unlocked so far). As for living houses, again you can build them as you wish, and there is a portrait that you can place inside the house to dedicate that house for a specific person, then only he/she will sleep in it, or ask for specific items for it (closet, bed etc..)
Edit: to be clear the game doesn't recognize a buildng until you put a door and the structure has to be without holes. Also, you need to put a torch inside(light). Once you do that, you'll see an effect that shows that it's now a building. Then you can put stuff inside it to transform it into a factory or a house. A pop up will show what it has become, and everytime you go in, its name will be in the top left corner.
i really like how it's designed. it gives more freedom in making the crafting buildings look however you like instead of a preset look (blueprint look). Though there are some blueprints for buildings that are used for tutorial purposes.
