I can see this scenario - Naughty Dog splitting into two teams, again. One for the new Crash, the other, Last Of Us sequel.  

 

I think they said they didn't want to work with Crash anymore. Originally, The Last of Us was a Crash reboot, but they later ditched the idea and never came back.
