Holy... wait that can't be right, can it? 28kg of Amplifier? That's like, concert levels of power isn't it? I can't even imagine what your poor neighbours would do... I'm guessing move out lol

I'm happily using one of these oldschool badboys still http://www.ebay.ie/itm/QED-A240-CD-SIGNAL-PATH-OPTIMISED-AMPLIFIER-Amp-Hifi-Separate-/131727086409?hash=item1eab8bd349:g:zX8AAOSwQYZWv1nX I got it maybe.... 15 years ago and I said then that I would use it until it broke, it's on for around 5-10 hours each day, still not so much as a hum from it's psu, just built to last like you said.

As for the fan plate under your laptop, there are a lot of different types of them, some would only raise it up a matter of less than 1inch to get some breathing air underneath it, just take a look at the ones on Ebay see if any would fit without taking up too much space for ya, especially if heat is becoming an issue and stopping you enjoy your games.

I bought the Yamaha DSP-AX1 when it came out and used it until I ran out of HDMI inputs on my tv. I even took it along with me overseas and bought a 1500 watt 110v to 220v power converter to continue to run it with the REL Storm subwoofer I still use. Yeah the neighbours weren't happy. I live in a detached house now :)

The replacement (RX-V473) was only meant to be temporary to be replaced with a hdmi 2.0 4K capable unit, yet 4K is taking a lot longer than I thought it would. I might switch to Marantz, their amplifiers are looking pretty nice nowadays, although Onkyo has THX certification.
As I understand it, it's more to do with the psu that gives it trouble running at full power. I set it to 5ch stereo and let it blast, result, psu gets too hot. (Error message is check speaker wire. I guess it thinks there is a short somewhere) So I guess buying a 9.2 ch receiver and only using 5 speakers should keep it running cool enough. Plus my preffered music is a wall of noise :/

Hmm thinking that over, I guess I will check the connections tomorrow. I remember my wife telling me a couple weeks ago that the kids had pushed the whole thing over and it fell behind the cabinet. So it's not too far fetched that one of the connections got twisted and a strand of copper is sticking out somewhere. That would explain why my rudimentary 'point a big desk fan at it' solution didn't help :)
