While I agree that there are more pressing concerns , that doesn't mean that other issues whether right or wrong can't have there own agenda.
I'm sure the UN has hundreds of commitees covering a wide range of subjects, and out of these come reports , some useless, some biased others trivial ,along side these are some important reports and for all it's many faults, it has a legacy of humanitarian and social reform that's not to shabby , after all where talking about a large group of nations with disparate and quite often opposing viewpoints, controlled at the top by a veto wielding elite.
The fact is these PC brain fades make for better headlines than something like, the annual report into the alleviation of curable blindness in 3rd world countries or some such document.
