Well think about it, would Sony really need to?
I mean they have been using and developing using Unix, Linux & source code for their own platforms for years.
The fact is Sony had helped develop the Android OS remember Android as a OS is from many companies adding to the source code, not just Google, its by many companies.
Sony could do exactly what Amazon did and fork The Android OS but make it playstation centric. Apk's & online store for the fork ,Hell they just may in fact do that.
But many times just because you fork Android really does not really mean much, because you really are not closed off , the fact is an Apk is pretty much just another Apk.
Sony really does not need to make an OS because they have already invested into other OS's already to make one of their own if they wanted to.
