I know its really a "both" answer. You can sell cheaper hardware for higher price to profit, or you gain more install base which means you profit off of the base for buying software or content your company provides. Either from deals you make to profit share, or license agreements, or hosting service's or advertising profits from your own ad agencies income. One part may post more profit, but you may still profit from all the ways listed. Trying to have a "framed" argument as this Where is the real (only) profit in gaming? Hardware or software? As one or the other is not at all conducive of hours a company can profit. Its many times more than just hardware or software by itself only as means to determine what's making said company money. Its very narrow in scope to look at it that way. |
If Sony started doing that, it could be bad for their business, as people wouldn't need to buy a PS4 to play some of their games anymore and could just satisfy that need on PC, but that would be profit on software.
Though if I could play their games on PC, I'd be more willing to, haha...
Dance my pretties!
