The whole idea makes me nauseous....
Does having a whole lot of cash reserves make MS a great company to have in the console space? No... look where they wanted to take the industry; DRM, always online, camera always connected, media focused, not game focused. We also see that they have no interest in building their own group of studios.
Apple is similar, the cash belongs to the company and not to a specific part of the company. They are into making money and getting huge ROI, not into "owning" any space... whether it is your pocket, living room or toilet. They really don't care about real gaming, the large investment and relative small return is not attractive to them. What you get in an iPhone in general is crap, second rate components dressed up to be premium. The design is where they make most of their money, that and tax avoidance through locating their HQ in Ireland and their design IP in the Caimen Islands (I believe).
I really do wish people would stop going on about apple, they are not that great. They had a golden period of innovation and that is long gone. Most people don't seem to have realised that yet and are still clinging to the brand.
