Google Cardboard is an horrible experience. It has no low persistance and therefor is puke inducing. Samsung Gear VR for example has this. Also it has way better headtracking. Google Cardboard also does not have additional sensors it relies on the weak build in sensors of the phone. The Apps do not have low level hardware access unlike Gear VR Apps. The FOV is too limited the optics are shit.
Mobile VR done decent is Gear VR Mobile VR doing everything wrong is Google Cardboard. Also we still have no positional tracking for mobile VR not even in the Gear and the refresh rates are too low. And there is an reason why Oculus went with 2 non smartphone screens for their consumer version. IPD adjustment and higher pixelfill in the custom panels plus higher refresh.
Cardboard is so far behind the Oculus its not even funny. And also Gear VR is significantly behind.
Its not just about the screen that makes an VR experience.
Mobile VR is the future, Oculus rift is the present.
