lol that's why I said I had a hard time wrapping my head around this.

gribble is right,.. head tracking is VR.  without head tracking a screen on your face would be a bit like going to the imax: just a screen with high field of vision.  in VR the headtracking is use instead of left analog camra control.  if you want to look left litterally look to the left.  this turing your head to get a full 360 vision of the world is what gives people the feeling they are actually in the world not just looking at a world (like current tv based gaming).

to your other question:

OR must ship with a camera and controller because a camera and controller is required and OR has never existed prior to launch day.

sony can ship without a camera or controller because while the camera/controller is still required sony has already sold around 5 million cameras and every ps4 comes with a controller.  ...so guys like myself that already own a camera and controller only need to buy the headset to use vr and not the headset/camera/controller bundle that OR must ship with.
