Google has shipped more than 5 million units of its Cardboard headset that uses sensors and a smartphone to provide an introductory virtual reality experience.
Also Google is putting VR support directly into the Android OS itself.

"Google will release the headset alongside new Android VR technology sometime in 2016. Bradshaw says it will use an existing smartphone that will fit into a slot on the plastic headset."

With such numbers of Google cardboard shipped numbers, do you think VR is getting a Quick start now?

actually it's quite the opposite, if "only" 5 milion people spent a really small ammount of money on a semi-VR add-on, then immagine how much will be interested in 600$ devices (or 700€ if you prefer :v)

Google Carboard is a joke compared to.real VR I will spend 800 on a VR Headset but would never consider buying Google cardboard. None.of my friends that pre ordered the Rift has one.
A Cardboard is not a replacement for.a Rift.
