Basically it would be similar like saying Smash Bros. or Mario Kart moved more consoles than DK. People need to understand that DK is just another 2D Wii U game while Splatoon is great new IP that become third huge IP alongside with MK and Smash, and will become even more popular IP than Smash (Splatoon probably will sell more than Smash on Wii U).

Yeah, I think some peoples expectations for Tropical Freeze was/is too high.  Like you said, it's a 2D sidescrolling platformer and those don't typically sell consoles anymore.  If they did, we wouldn't be complaining about the Wii U's bad launch lineup since it had NSMBU and NSMB games typically sell well.  If Tropical Freeze were a 3rd person 3D game, I think this discussion would have been a lot more interesting.

Hopefully now people understand the power of DK (or the lack of) and stop using it as an excuse.
