Even if that happens, it took three full years just to catch up. That's a far cry from the PS1,PS2 and PS3 days. Sony's dominance in Japan is over.

How far behind the Wii U was the ps4 when it launched? According to Vgchartz when ps4 launched in 2014 it was 1.6m behind.  the Wii U in Japan hasn't bombed like it did everywhere else.  

 

The Ps4 is up on ps3 launch aligned and right on que it will blast past Wii U this year.  No matter how you word it there's been no victory for the Wii U vs PS4 in Japan.  

 

And yes it's actually similar to last gen (similar sales to ps3) but the difference is Nintendo are not a patch on the Wii in Japan last gen when it took Japan by a million.
