To be fair, I'd estimate that a little less than half of that 100m install base on the Wii would be what you'd call 'core gamers' based on the sales numbers for some of Nintendo's significant non-casual games (Animal Crossing, Smash, 3D Mario and mainline Zelda for example) compared to similar series entries on the Gamecube.  The only games I can remember off-hand that got significant boosts becuase of the casual crowd (besides casual games) were 2D platformers, Mario Kart and party games.

Not seeing your point here. Who exactly the games sold to is irrelevant unless you're trying to explain why the Metroid base is louder.

The original point was stating how Metroid Prime 3 sold only a couple of extra hundred thousands compared to Tropical Freeze even when the Wii had a userbase of 100m. Selling close to 2m on a userbase of 100m sounds a hell of a lot worse than selling close to 2m on a userbase of around 45-50m core gamers.  That being said, I think a Metroid Prime game would have had a negligible sales increase compared to Tropical Freeze (if any) but I think it would have moved more consoles considering it would have been Metroid's first HD game (and an HD Prime game would have probably looked spectacular enough to entice people on visuals alone), fans were thirsty and wanted to get the taste of Other M out of their mouths, it would have stood out in the sea of Wii U 2D platformers and it might have turned into the deciding factor in convincing many people who didn't care for the majority of Nitnendo's kid-friendly 1st party games to buy a Wii U.
