I disagree... somewhat. This generation is strange and unpredictable. Things that might never have been even considered last generation are so this one. What may have been niche last generation could become popular in this one.

Also, it's not as though the CoD series was niche before, but suddenly turning into a monster hit franchise with 4?

Oh, and an edutainment game selling more copies than Grand Theft Auto III. Who'd have thought that?
