However, what we do know is that EA's exclusive deal (with Madden at least) only applies to third parties... First parties ARE allowed to make licensed NFL games.  Microsoft and Sony don't do this because they are worried about their relationship with EA.

So, if EA kept the licenses on their new console, Microsoft and Sony would start working on their NFL/Fifa/whatever  games pretty much immediately.  The other games wouldn't be as popular, but many gamers would prefer this to buying a system just for Madden.

EA would keep the hardcore madden fans, and sell a few million units.  Then, when the contracts end, every license would leave, and EA would be on the brink of bankruptcy.

alright, didnt knew about this madden licensing deal.

But sony and microsoft probl wont have the expierence to make as good games fast.

I wont say the console would be doomed if it would get third party support, EAs real first party IPs (Mirrors Edge, mass Effect, Dragon Age, Battlefield) are for sure on a same or even better level then sonys/microsofts first party ips (at least in terms of popularity). Their only problem would be the strong brand exspecieally sony has with the playstation.

When EA refused to make Madden games for the Dreamcast, Sega responded by creating the NFL 2K series.  Despite Sega's lack of experience, the games were considered better, and became such a threat to EA, that they created the exclusive deal they have now to crush competition.

Console would be doomed.  More importantly though, even if the console was successful it is still highly unlikely it would make up for the revenue lost by not selling Madden on multiple platforms.

It's actually the opposite, Sega started making the 2K series and EA threatened to stop supporting them if they didn't abandon the series. Sega declined and EA dropped support.
