So 5.7m for holidays after Black Friday, and 8.4m for the entire quarter. With majority of the 2.7m remaining from November, I am guessing 1.5-2m. Using that estimate it matched 2003 and surpassed 2001 as predicted.

The 8.4 million number is a sell in number and cannot be used alongside a sell through number. The numbers in this thread are sell through numbers.

Here is an example, in the OP it is mentioned that the PS2 sold through 8.5 million in November and December 2002. However, Sony only sold in / produced 8 million units for October, November and December. The majority of units sold through to end users were actually shipped by Sony in the July to September quarter.

Therefore we can't use sell in numbers to accurately determine how many were sold through. For example, the sell through number as of end of 2015 is 35.9m, the shipment number is 37.7m, so this means there are 1.8m units in Channel.

The only number we have is 5.7m sold through between November 23rd and January 3rd. This is higher when compared to the same period in 2001. But there is no comparable period for 2002 as the full month of November is counted in that 2002 number. Therefore we can't exactly say whether PS2 did better than 2003 or 2002. But based on the data we do have it looks like it did less than 2003 and 2002 holiday.
