Then again the UK if someone tries to burgle you and you try killing or maiming them then they can sue you which again sounds backwards because you are the one at danger and being invaded.

I don't know about suing, but I remember a story a few years back near to where I live where a burglar broke into a house with the homeowner inside the premise. The homeowner defended himself and the burglar was killed. The homeowner was arrested but quickly the case was dropped. I'd like to think anything similar would also be thrown out by the court/judge.
