Which is unfortunate because the gameplay is great. I like how accessible Awakening is for me personally. I've hesitated at trying previous games due to permadeath and having to restart chapters (which is a pain). However I was able to get over that and prove myself that I could play strategy games with higher stakes. Awakening remains one of my favorite games of all time, even after trying out the other games since I played Awakening. Sure the pair up is broken, but I liked the ability to improve characters almost endlessly. I like being able to experiment. Unfortuately, the fan service sorta gets most of the attention and it's despite the fact that there really isn't much of it in Awakening (besides Tharja, even though she is pretty badass).
