While I am surprised he released the game in a rather undesirable state, I do respect that he not only pulled the game, but made sure people got refunds as well as promise to release it for free when it is properly finished. Making sure people got refunds would have been okay enough.
Why he is still getting flack from people, I dunno. It could have def been worse as you have said.
