Using the movie analogy, I'm not asking for violent, action packed movies to go away, I just want art house flicks and chick flicks and comedies and everything else to have their chance. The utter domination of the market by these types of games is a little depressing, that's all.

I'm more optimistic about the games industry, myself. The lifetime sales numbers for VgChartz database show that shooters and war simulations have never dominated sales charts. The numbers are overwhelmingly with good old Nintendo, platformers, the Mario franchise, and of course RPGs.

And don't forget, Grand Theft Auto and Metal Gear, for all their superficial violence, were smash hits because they had tremendous storylines, memorable characters and believable game-worlds. Even a violent game like God of War II isn't mindless about violence - it has a deeply tragic storyline, some amazing voice-acting and characters. The Atlas sequence alone was worth the price of admission. Vastly superior to any action film Hollywood produced during the last 3 years, and at a fraction of their budget.
