There's a reason why cardboard is cheap. The optics are not very good. As far as I know, the optics in more serious VR headsets, PSVR included, are designed such that the majority of the screen shows images that will go to the center of your field of view, where you see well, while less will go to your periferic vision, where the resolution of your evey goes down drastically, so resolution there is basically wasted (unless you role your eyes and not your head, hence some people demand eye tracking too - we're not there yet). So, PSVR will have resolution problems but not to the extent of what one can find in a cardboard. Plus, when the 1:1 hadtraking comes into play, coupled with very low latency and the much larger field of view, the diference to carbdoard shoudl be big enough that it will feel like a completely different experience imo. |
Hm.. I can't say I'm too optimistic that better optics and optimized screen tech (I read they decreased inter-pixel-distances and arranged more pixels in the center of the view for the PSVR screen) can improve this "low-res-look" enough for my personal taste, but I'll definitely try it out once I get the chance.

Thanks! I hope so as well. It'd just make getting the PSVR a whole lot sweeter :P |
Yoshida afaik already said that non-game-content will be very important for VR.
