These are the core issues that they claim to represent and utilize to motivate their voter base. While you are right that they actually enact policies that are quite similar (taxation, budgets, military, etc.), these are the ideals that each side is defending/demonizing.

If you are not from the US, it must be something akin to viewing a circus, on LSD, through a kaleidoscope.
