If he wants to play games, he should get a PS2 actually. That is, if he never had one. If he buys an 80GB PS3 he will have the largest game library available for a single console in history. PS1, PS2 and PS3 games. So if he really really wants to play games, I don't think he can go wrong with a BC PS3.
