I believe it's matter of poor countries with big population that make this figure as shocking
a fair figure would exclude those undeveloped countries, as the world's richest obviously make their money from developed countries, where the people are wealthy enough to pay for their goods/services/entertainment, so there is a balance (more or less) that cannot be broken (unless we go back to slavery)
the world's poorest can survive without microsoft, telecom and facebook, which are good examples of the services that the world's richest provide, so it is not as bad as it sounds
and most importantly, world's richest are also some of the world's biggest philanthropists, "Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation" for example
