FF games (and JRPGs in general) aren't particularly known for have amazing legs in Japan, many selling over 50% of their LT sales in their FW. Of course expanding install base is important, but the install base at the time of release is also a major factor that can hinder a game's sales from the jump.

 

wrong FF13 and its addons sold 4 Million easily. FF15 will be huge if its released, its open world now
