With sports players in particular, when my dad was a kid, he used to go to a lot of baseball games and he said in the off season, those famous ball players might be a co-worker at your job because they had to get a job in the off season. They only started making actual money when television and advertising got involved with the sports. The sports leagues were getting money from this as well as the team owners. The managers, coaches, refs, and the players wanted their share too.
To be honest, while I think getting paid millions of dollars to play a kid's game is stupid, I think it actually is fair. Think about it, the athletes play the games. They're the reason the owners are getting rich. Don't they deserve some of that money as well? Also, if you want to be brutally honest, it is actually the fault of the average consumer that these people make so much. Using the sports stars as an example again, if the fans would not go to the games, not buy the merchandise, not watch the games on TV that justify airing the Coke advertisements, then these sports stars wouldn't be making all that money.
Another sad truth is that entertainment is more valuable than just about anything today. It is where the money is invested and spent. And it is the fault of everyone that it is that way.
