That "vice versa" is quite controversial, to put it mildly. Unfortunately, the situation is far from symmetrical.
Simply, there isn't much left left (even to the point of the very term being considered archaic and redundant by some) - and one can comfortably do all kinds of left-right labeling even on the extreme right, without noticing at all that he is doing something wrong. In fact, that is quite common today - we lost the left referrence point.
PS I don't fully believe in these linear simplifications, still it gives relatively accurate image of the way I see modern political dynamics statics.
