It's impossible to say. We live in a world where games have developed along with technology. If Nintendo hadn't pulled gaming out of the gutter, gaming might have been left untouched for years or even decades before people wanted to give it another go, and in that case I can barely imagine what things would look like developing from a dead stop like that. Plus they brought multiple revolutionary ideas to the table, which might have taken a lot longer for others to "discover". The entire industry would be completely and entirely different. Not necessarily better or worse--just massively different.
