I could be wrong, but he's incorrect about them adding "US taxes". There are no US taxes that I am aware of that are applicable.
Australia gets fucked on everything. Even iPhone apps, they're always a dollar or two more than what they cost elsewhere. When the Australian parliament summoned Apple to explain the price difference, the answer basically was "because we can".
