I think Brecht -- as well as his latterday avatar, Heiner Mueller -- would've gotten a huge kick out of MGS4. Brilliantly subversive anti-corporate and anti-war theater, in this Age of Neoliberalism.
The review system is broken, no question. GTA4 is a wonderful game, and I'm having a blast with it, but it's no 10 out of 10. A solid 9.5, for sure, but nothing earth-shattering.
That said... MGS4 is one of the few games of this generation which deserves the hype. It's something you can sense in the trailers: the sense of something special, which comes along once in a decade, if ever.
