As a guy that actually liked Dead Island and RIptide I would say that DL seems like a definite step up, at least in terms of gameplay, story is a bit of a step up but really most of these games have always had that "go here and fetch this or go here and kill that" with some sprinkled "run away from X monster that you cannot defeat but must run from anyway".
The game was definitely fun for me and co-op was ok for the most part but after modding my game Techland had a stance where they wouldn't let people with mods play with anyone else, even those with the same exact mods and my one was only visual in terms of disabling Chromatic Aberration permanently as it blurred my vision and was a performance hog, apart from that it's an all around good game and a step up from the other two games for sure in almost every way (besides missing Sam B and "Who do you Voodoo bitch").
Also I don't care what anyone says but I really love having a grappling hook in the game, makes for some really close shave escapes and cool entry points as well.
I do feel though that this is probably the best zombie game for this gen and one I've played in about 5 years with Dead Rising 2 being the last good one I played.
Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.
