But our countries' economies are still built on return on investment, and for that to happen more often than not, markets need to grow, and that in part means population growth. This is unsustainable environmentally, but it's how our economy has been set up for hundreds of years. So the first world has expanded too much. We need to regress to a sustainable level even if that means a simpler way of life. It's not good for the planet to push this model. And countries like China, India and Brazil will do the same. It's unsustainable and it's the real problem but sadly people are selfish and only look at the short term issues.
