I took incredible care of my consoles but a few still broke.
My ps1 had to be laid on its side to work and eventually upside down before it diex. The little round spindle thingy that holds the disc on my second PS1 fell off for no apparent reason. I glued it back on and it worked fine, though. I traded it for credit towards my PS2.
My first PS2 quit reading discs. My second PS2 also quit reading discs but I learned how to open it up and adjust it. Then, one day I forgot I had taken all of the screws out of it and picked it up. Every wire in the thing came loose! I eventually bought a third but gave it away when I got a PS3.
My first 20gb Xbox 360 died the day I got Mass Effect. RRoD. I got it fixed but it later died again... The day I got Mass Effect 2! My second 60gb 360 died after I opened it up to fix a broken disc drive. I guess i did something wrong. Instant RRoD. M$ fixed this one for free and I still have it. Works great. I also got a 250gb 360 that still works great.
My 80gb PS3 (2008) came with MGS4. It worked great but died the day I got Metal Gear Rising! Wtf? I didn't get a new PS3 until black Friday that year (2013). I never did finish MGS Rising.
My NES, SNES, Genesis, Gameboy, Gamecube, GBA, N64, Wii, WiiU, Ouya, Xbox One, PS4, PSP (x2), DS (x6), Vita, 3DS (x4) Dreamcast all worked until I either gave them away, boxed them up, or sold them.
A hinge on all three of my phat DS consoles broke, though. Poor quality, I assume.
