Basically Oculus rifts costs wont nessarly have any correlation to the PS VR. Differnt firms, differt design approachs (components), differnt design teams/goals, differnt contacts and perphaps contracts for components ect.

Sure, they're different devices, but ultimately they're doing the same thing at a very similar level of fidelity from what I hear. The components can't possibly be all that far apart, unlike with a car.
Also, I would think that that ps4 vs Xbone would be a better analogy than your Toyota one. PS4 is better in pretty much every way, while still being cheaper for Sony to manufacture. The price difference still wasn't a factor of nearly 2:1, though.
