It's not really that big of a misstep since their main focus in the console space and not PC. Besides even if theydid bother, they would still be going up against 2 other VR devices and then in the future a few more.
Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.
