There will be much better TVs by then. I would think the PS5 and Xbox 2 could do 4k by then, although I think we will see those consoles in 2020.

Much better? How so? Bigger models might be cheaper, but what if you don't want to buy a $800 tv now and again in 2018? Not many people are going to want to do that.

Bigger, higher resolution, less lag, OLED 4k TV's being standard, entirely new technology being implemented, 8K TVs etc. The possibilities are endless.
If you don't want to spend $800 every few years for an awesome gaming TV, that fine, there might be a compromise in image quality compared to the TV's in the next few years but there's no way around that.

Why buy a PS4 when the PS5 will be around soon enough, and be much better?
See the problem with the whole wait for something better arguement.
You could wait for 8k, and hell, 8k will probably even be around in 5 years, but 8k at that time will still be in its infancy and cost in the thousands even 5 years from now. 4k will only run you around the same price as a 1080p tv. Come 8 or 9 years you might have to start looking into 8k, plenty of time to get use out of your 4k.
