i expect 499$ because it's better to for ex. sell 2 million for 499$ till end 2016 than getting pre-orders of 6 million for 299$ that will take till mid 2017 to produce and ship. i guess sony is predicting the pre-order demand for oculus right now and then they'll try to figure out the highest price they can sell the maximum amount of units they're able to produce and ship in 2016. you can always cut the price in case there is no demand but it's a little bit difficult the other way round.
